Goodie Words: Getting gooder all the time

Goodie Words: Getting gooder all the time
IPAD APPS REVIEW

It’s been a while since I downloaded Goodie Words to my iPad and unleashed my little spawnlings upon it.  Back then there were only three words to learn, three games to explore and, frankly, maryly, and dunstanly, I wasn’t all that impressed.

But then came the updates, game after game, learning opp after learning opp, and all for free it would seem.  Now there’s eighteen of the blighters and…dammit…they’re getting a lot gooder.  I mean better.

Frotz: The Interactive Fiction Renaissance

Frotz: The Interactive Fiction Renaissance
IPAD APPS REVIEW

In my tweeny years I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing interactive fiction games on my old Atari 600XL.  Why?  They were one of the few types of games that fitted into my Atari’s miniscule 16K RAM, and they were FUN dash nabbit!

Zork, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Leather Goddesses of Phobos…

I have Infocom to thank, partly, for my addiction to writing.  IF games, or ‘text adventure games’ as they were called back then, got me involved in the storytelling process, got me to put my own words up there on the screen under the beautifully written paragraphs of the Infocom pros.  Made me feel like I was part of the creation, the protagonist and author of a virtual novel.

This was in the late 80s…and now IF is back, and it’s on the iPad, thanks to Frotz.

iDino Book: A Dinophile’s playground

iDino Book: A Dinophile’s playground
IPAD APPS REVIEW

Who knew that New Zealand had it’s very own dinosaur?  A little one called the Mini Me…I mean Minmi.

Only 1.4m high…aaawww, cute…but couldn’t we have ended up with something a little more…you know…thunder lizardish?

I guess we got the Moa and the Haast Eagle…biggest birds in the world.  Shouldn’t really complain.

And I didn’t even know I had ‘inferior dinosaur complex’ until I opened up iDino Book.

The Action Method.  Got projects coming out your ears?

No…that’s cerebral fluid…see you doctor immediately.

Now, for everyone else…let’s get organized.

That is, as long as the Action Method is more effective that the rhythm method.

Phoster: My most wanted poster app

Phoster: My most wanted poster app
IPAD APPS REVIEW

I haven’t made a poster since High School English class.

I wasn’t very good at it then.

And don’t remember it being this easy.

Phoster…more comfortable than a glue stick up your nose.

0 to 100: a portrait of time passing

0 to 100: a portrait of time passing
IPAD APPS REVIEW

Apps…applications…it’s a misleading title at times.  Sometimes apps don’t do much of anything.

And sometimes that’s perfect.

The 0 to 100 project.

Nothing to do but look.  Works for me.
