Alphabet Board: Better than a duster in the back of the head

Alphabet Board: Better than a duster in the back of the head
IPAD APPS REVIEW

Blackboard screech.

Chalk dust choke.

Duster in the back of the head for turning around to flirt with Erin.

The old school…taught me to write ‘real nice’, it did.  And now, with Alphabet Board, my daughter can learn the old school way to.

Without the duster in the back of the head.

Player Piano Plus: No elephants were harmed making this app

Player Piano Plus: No elephants were harmed making this app
IPAD APPS REVIEW

Horton can rest easy knowing that he won’t be brutally poached and butchered for his majestic ivory tucks.  That’s a relief.  Who would like after the Whos?

Why is Horton safe?  He’s obsolete…as far his tusks are concerned.  And as far as Player Piano Plus is concerned too.  Why tickle a dead jumbo’s ivories when you can play the piano to your heart’s content on the iPad?

HD Wallpapers: Pretty pretty

HD Wallpapers: Pretty pretty
IPAD APPS REVIEW

Pretty, pretty, pretty.  The world is a much more enjoyable place when one’s surroundings are pretty, or artful, or cogitatively provocative in a spiritually uplifting manner…

...okay, Edwin.  We get the point.  Pretty is good.  Which is why…

…oh so subtle segue imminent…

…HD Wallpapers for the iPad is spiffy.  It’s brimming with prettiness.

Strange Rain: My iPad is raining on me

Strange Rain: My iPad is raining on me
IPAD APPS REVIEW

A bit of diversion here…in a couple of senses of the word.  This is a completely accidental find on the app store but one that would have been totally rude to resist.

Strange Rain.

You’re not strictly making anything…more of a relaxing way to take some time out from making stuff.

So what is it?  It’s got rain.  It’s strange.  And it’s a mind blowing example of how the sum is always greater than the parts.

Penultimate: So simple a five year old could use it

Penultimate: So simple a five year old could use it
IPAD APPS REVIEW

I hate clichés.  ‘At the end of the day’ who doesn’t?  But seriously, clichés give me the metaphorical runs.  Why?  They’re so damned easy to fall into.  One moment of inattention and a “So in a nutshell…” blindsides your summarizing paragraph.  Then it’s all over…red rover.

How does one combat a cliché like, “It’s so simple a five year old could use it”?

Test it.  Get a real five year old to have a go at Penultimate to see if it really is that easy to use.

Take it away, Luca!

Noteshelf: How big is your nib?

Noteshelf: How big is your nib?
IPAD APPS REVIEW

“Notebooks are heavy, man. “ – Anonymous Hippy, 1969

I only ever get the hard cover ones with the elastic that holds them closed, and even the smallest of those are pretty chunky.  And when I’m carrying my iPad and a notebook, and my wallet, and my cell phone, and my peanut butter sammies…well it all starts to get a bit cumbersome.  So invariably I end up leaving my notebook at home, and even more invariably I have ideas and things that I want to write down.  What do I do?  Generally forget them on the way home.

NO MORE!!

Sorry for shouting at you.  It’s just that when I saw Noteshelf in the app store I thought I’d found just the thing.  Let’s see if my first impressions were right, eh?
