Goodie Words: Getting gooder all the time

Goodie Words: Getting gooder all the time
IPAD APPS REVIEW

It’s been a while since I downloaded Goodie Words to my iPad and unleashed my little spawnlings upon it.  Back then there were only three words to learn, three games to explore and, frankly, maryly, and dunstanly, I wasn’t all that impressed.

But then came the updates, game after game, learning opp after learning opp, and all for free it would seem.  Now there’s eighteen of the blighters and…dammit…they’re getting a lot gooder.  I mean better.

Frotz: The Interactive Fiction Renaissance

Frotz: The Interactive Fiction Renaissance
IPAD APPS REVIEW

In my tweeny years I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing interactive fiction games on my old Atari 600XL.  Why?  They were one of the few types of games that fitted into my Atari’s miniscule 16K RAM, and they were FUN dash nabbit!

Zork, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Leather Goddesses of Phobos…

I have Infocom to thank, partly, for my addiction to writing.  IF games, or ‘text adventure games’ as they were called back then, got me involved in the storytelling process, got me to put my own words up there on the screen under the beautifully written paragraphs of the Infocom pros.  Made me feel like I was part of the creation, the protagonist and author of a virtual novel.

This was in the late 80s…and now IF is back, and it’s on the iPad, thanks to Frotz.

Voki: Put a face to the name

Voki: Put a face to the name
WEB APPS REVIEW

What’s the biggest dilemma facing us wannabe video bloggers out there?

Coming up with ideas?  Nope.

Being worth listening to?  For some, yes, but generally…nope.

Well, what is it then?  What’s the crux, the rub, the palpitating heart of the issue?

Ever heard the phrase, “You’ve got a face for radio”?

Yes, the curse of looking not like a movie star but, well, like a normal human.  Hey, now normal works for many…most in fact.  But if normal just isn’t fitting in with your plans then Voki could help you…with a little ‘face lift’ of sorts.

Against All Odds: Moving hearts and minds

Against All Odds: Moving hearts and minds
WEB APPS REVIEW

Apps can move.

No, I’m not talking about animation or portability.  I’m talking about moving the mind...and the heart.

Against All Odds succeeds in telling one hard truth, loud and clear.

Being a refugee…it sucks.

Doodle Buddy - Everyone loves to doodle?

Doodle Buddy - Everyone loves to doodle?
IPHONE APPS REVIEW

The Doodle Buddy was released in May of 2009 for free. It is a great application meant for doodling. That’s pretty much all you need to know.

Anyone who loves to doodle or just finds themselves doodling while they are listening to a supremely boring lecture or stuck somewhere with nothing to do will love this application.
