Player Piano Plus: No elephants were harmed making this app

Player Piano Plus: No elephants were harmed making this app
IPAD APPS REVIEW

Horton can rest easy knowing that he won’t be brutally poached and butchered for his majestic ivory tucks.  That’s a relief.  Who would like after the Whos?

Why is Horton safe?  He’s obsolete…as far his tusks are concerned.  And as far as Player Piano Plus is concerned too.  Why tickle a dead jumbo’s ivories when you can play the piano to your heart’s content on the iPad?

Barista: A coffee guru at your fingertips

Barista: A coffee guru at your fingertips
IPHONE APPS REVIEW

A coffee guru at your fingertips…hmmm…having anyone at your fingertips suggests a ‘not just friends’ relationship doesn’t it.  Well, rest assured, I love my iPhone, but I don’t looooove my iPhone.

Although when it helps me make a kickass Macchiato like the one I’m drinking right now…yes, I’m typing one handed whilst sipping this beautiful brew…the lines with my iPhone get a little blurred, I have admit.

Ah, Barista.  I shall carry you in my pants always.

My pocket, I mean.

Kids in Mind: Making sure you don’t have a ‘Team America’ moment.

Kids in Mind: Making sure you don’t have a ‘Team America’ moment.
IPHONE APPS REVIEW

There once was a hapless chap who placed his children, and his friends’ children, in front of Team America, thinking it was a Thunderbirds movie.  I believe he discovered his error upon walking back into the room during the two minute long puppet sex scene.

Platoon HQ: Marshalling troops the hard way.

Platoon HQ: Marshalling troops the hard way.
WEB APPS REVIEW

‘Platoon’ is and will always be one of my favourite ever films.  Perhaps it’s Lance Henriksen.  Perhaps it’s the beauty of Barber’s ‘Adagio for Strings’ as Charlie Sheen is airlifted away.   A war movie with soul, that one.

A pity the movie has nothing to do with its namesake app.  Platoon HQ the ‘staff management app’ isn’t as beautiful and I think there were a few more causalities in the end.  Mostly my brain cells as I bashed my head repeatedly against the desk.

The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross: A piece of digital enchantment

The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross: A piece of digital enchantment
IPAD APPS REVIEW

I’ve always loved being read to.  Particularly by smooth voiced Irishmen.  No, don’t look at me like that.  You know not the magic of such a thing until you’ve tried it.

Oh, and throw in some beautiful illustrations and surreal animation for good measure.  That’s what Moving Tales has done in this digital retelling of an age old tale, The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross.

Gushing?  You’re the one who’s gushing at the moment Edwin.  Damn straight I am, and for good reason.

Snapr: The streets have eyes!
IPHONE APPS REVIEW

The streets have eyes, man!  We’re the iSpy generation.  A mobilized army of iPhone snap happy freaks, sharing our world view one photo at a time.

Not news, really.  It’s been happening on Facebook for an age now.  But with Snapr it’s a whole lot easier, and a whole lot more in your face.
